Common Questions

Looking for how the game works?

The full Frequently Asked Questions covers the daily game, scoring, ranks, Storm Mode, the seasonal forecasts, and exactly what is free and what is not. The answers below are the ones support gets asked most.

How is my score calculated?

Against real observations, never against a forecast. Most values come from the automated National Weather Service stations at airports. Rain and snow may be scored against a nearer CoCoRaHS gauge instead — volunteer observers with standard gauges, and the better source for precipitation. Your results screen names the station that scored you and how far away it is. Your Forecast Accuracy Rating (FAR) tracks your accuracy over time.

What is Storm Mode?

Storm Mode activates during significant weather events — tornado outbreaks, named tropical cyclones, major winter storms — tracked by the Storm Prediction Center, National Hurricane Center, or Weather Prediction Center. When an event is active, you can make high-stakes predictions before the warnings drop.

My score doesn't look right.

Scores are finalized once official observations are posted, which can take a few hours after a prediction window closes. If your score still looks wrong after 24 hours, email us at support@rivalwx.com with your username and the date of the prediction.

Can I change my prediction after submitting?

Yes, within limits. Each daily window has an adjustment window afterwards — 1:30 to 2:30 in the afternoon after your morning call, 1:30 to 2:30 in the morning after your evening one — where you can refine your pick at full value. There is also a 15-minute grace period right after a window shuts: a call made then still scores, at 80% of the points, and does not count toward your streak.

Once those close, the call is locked, and Storm Mode tiers lock at their own cutoffs. That part is by design: the game measures the call you committed to, not the one you wish you had made.

How do I delete my account?

You can do it yourself at any time, and it takes effect immediately: open Settings in the app and tap Delete Account. This permanently erases your account and your prediction history, and it cannot be undone. If you have an active Premium subscription, cancel it first through your Apple ID or Google Play account — deleting your RivalWx account does not cancel an auto-renewing subscription. The NHC and WPC unlocks are one-time purchases, so there is nothing to cancel there.

If you would rather we did it for you, email support@rivalwx.com with the subject line "Delete my account" and we'll remove your data within 30 days in accordance with our Privacy Policy.

Is RivalWx free?

Yes. Daily predictions, your FAR, all six leaderboards, head-to-head, the mini-games and SPC Storm Mode are free and stay free.

Premium ($2.99/month or $19.99/year) adds Expert mode and its extra prediction categories, the SPC Day 2 and Day 3 tiers, a higher streak-freeze cap, and no ads. Hurricane (NHC) and winter/heat/flooding (WPC) predictions are separate one-time $4.99 unlocks — they are not part of Premium, and they do not require a subscription.
